No fewer than 5000 persons have dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying they cannot belong to opposition politics.
The defectors included PDP in the MINDA extraction of the Benue North West senatorial district. They burnt their PDP membership cards and held the broom to mark their decamping.
Several political units in MINDA including political clubs and associations, as well traditional groups were led into the APC fold. The event was held at the JS Tarka foundation in Makurdi.
Speaking, Mike Adyo, a unit leader of the defectors from Sherev in Guma LGA, said they cannot risk the folly of belonging to the opposition to antagonize the administration of Governor Ortom hence he an indigene of the council area. He said they queue behind the governor to enhance day development.
State chairman of APC, Abba Yaro said the defection was a clear manifestation that the opposition PDP has finally collapsed and lost its relevance to oppose the governing APC.
According to Yaro, the party was not out to witch-hunt and or foster segregation but to bring all people together, irrespective of party affiliation in order to enhance growth and rapid development.
